Lacrosse Adds Six Recruits for 2007-08

Dec. 7, 2006

Pittsburgh, PA - Second year head women's lacrosse coach Mike Scerbo has recently announced his 2007-08 recruiting class. Signing national letters of intent are Elizabeth Fey (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), Caitlin Rekart (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), Kimberly Schindel (Edgewater, Md./St. Mary's), Adrienne Shaw (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley), Meghan Whitcomb (Taneytown, Md./Seton Keough) and Lauren Wise (Eldersburg, Md./Seton Keough).

"We have been very fortunate to sign six incredibly talented and hard working student-athletes from the class of 2007," said Coach Scerbo. "It may be the most talented class of lacrosse players to ever step on Duquesne University's campus. They will certainly help us take another step toward winning an Atlantic 10 title."

Fey will help secure the midfield where she recorded 84 goals and 21 assists in 2006 at Kings Park High. She was named to the New York State Regional School Girls Team last year and earned a spot on the Empire State Team. Fey was twice named an all-county pick and was named all-league in 2004. Over her career, Fey had accumulated 161 goals and 52 assists entering her senior slate. Coach Scerbo adds: "Liz is a gifted athlete and talented lacrosse player, but more importantly she has a tremendous work ethic that will allow her to learn our systems and make an impact right away. Having played lacrosse in the hotbed of Long Island for the Long Island Express Lacrosse Club she will bring a wealth of experience to the field." Fey has been a member of the National Honor Society and will be considering a major in physical therapy.

Rekart will add to the depth and talents of the Dukes' attack after aiding in Mount Hebron earning a No. 1 national ranking from 2004 through 2006 taking county, regional and state titles each season and racking up a 99-game winning streak. She was a 2006 first team all-county selection and has also earned second team all-county, All-Galaxy and honorable mention All-Metro laurels. A member of the National Honor Society, she intends to major in nursing. "Katie is a gem. She has been a phenomenal leader for both Mt. Hebron, the top high school in the country for girls' lacrosse and for her M&D Lacrosse Club. Her vision, poise and skill blended with the other attackers we have on this team will put her in a position to make an impact with our team and in the A-10," says Scerbo.

Schindel, an attack, helped lead her St. Mary's squad to the 2005 IAAM League championship and to a No. 9 national ranking in 2006. A three-year varsity lacrosse and soccer player, she was named to the 2006 Under Armour All-Star lacrosse team and as a lacrosse academic All-America. Schindel is a member of the National Honor Society, a Maryland Distinguished Scholar and is a Special Olympics Volunteer. She plans to major in pre-law. Scerbo adds: "Kim brings a wealth of experience to the Dukes having played for the CC Lax Club and for powerful St. Mary's High School in Annapolis, MD. She is athletic and versatile having the ability to play on either end of the field or run in the midfield."

A four-year letterman, Shaw led her Garnet Valley squad in goals each season and has been lauded as the team MVP since her freshman slate. A four-time first team all-league pick, she has 184 career goals entering her senior campaign and has been named second team all-county. Shaw is a member of the National Honor Society and coaches youth lacrosse. She is undecided on a major. "Adrienne brings a tenacity to our team that will compliment our current players," say Scerbo. "She is able to impact both the defense and the offense and I have seen her do just that for both Garnett Valley and for Lenepe Premier. We are excited to be getting the second Shaw sister and I know she will have as much, if not more of an impact as her sister Kelly who competed for the Dukes from 2002 to 2004."

Whitcomb will add to the depth of the midfield after helping lead Seton Keough to a No. 31 national ranking and a No. 10 spot for Maryland in IAAM according to laxpower.com. A four-year letterwinner in lacrosse, she also lettered twice in soccer and competes for Hero's Club Lacrosse. A member of the National Honor Society, Whitcomb intends to be an elementary education major. Scerbo adds, "Meghan is an amazing athlete that has played in every position on the field during her career with the Hero's Club and Seton Keough High School. She has incredibly quick feet and hands which will allow her to either score goals or become a take away artist for our defense."

A midfield/attack player, Wise has been a four-year varsity starter and was second for her Keough squad with 40 goals in 18 games as a junior en route to second team All-City honors. Her squad was ranked 10th in 2004 and 15th in 2005 by the Baltimore Sun while soccer was 15th and basketball was listed at No. 2. Wise was selected to the Mid-Atlantic National Tournament team and was named MVP in the National Development Program Club Tournament. She also lettered four years in soccer and once in basketball. She also tried her hand at track where she helped guide the 4 x 400 meter relay team to a new school record as a junior. Wise has competed for Hero's Youth Lacrosse Club and is a member of SAAD and a volunteer at the American Cancer Society. She is looking to be a business major. "Lauren was one of the leading scorers for both her Hero's Club and Seton Keough High School last season as a junior. She scored countless game winning goals for these two teams and truly has the gift to put points on the board. She is an extremely talented midfielder that will step into a starting midfield role as a freshman and will have a serious impact in our conference," says Scerbo.
