Philadelphia, Pa. - Duquesne University's women's swimming team topped La Salle, 132-95, Friday at the Explorers' Kirk Pool for the team's sixth win a row in dual matches.
Duquesne won six races and swept both the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard breaststroke races. The Dukes also took all three top spots in the 200 yard medley relay and got first and second in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Mary Beth Gorinski and freshmen Mallory Marx, Kendra Prater and Katrina Streiner each won individual races; Streiner was also a member of both gold medal relay teams.
Gorinski (Greensburg, PA / Hempfield) finished 1:10.37, good for the gold in the 100 yard breaststroke, 0.06 of a second ahead of classmate Lauren Stephens's (Allentown, PA / Parkland) silver medal time of 1:10.43. Another soph, Danielle Newcomb (Lexington, KY / Paul Laurence Dunbar), picked up the bronze with a mark of 1:10.89.
Marx (Bradford, PA / Bradford) won the 100 yard backstroke at 1:00.87 with sophomore Kyla Favret (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) second at 1:01.31.
Prater (South Point, OH / Grace Christian) won the 200 intermediate medley with a time of 2:14.32, more than 2 1/2 seconds in front of La Salle's Mallory Kessler.
Streiner (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) led the sweep of the 100 yard butterfly with a mark of 0:59.40, ahead of Newcomb's 1:01.64 and sophomore Avy Mitchell's (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) mark of 1:01.84.
Joining Streiner on the winning 100 yard medley relay team (1:51.39) were senior Sarah Breisinger (Springdale, PA / Springdale), Mitchell and Marx. Streiner was also on the winning 200 yard freestyle team (1:40.95) along with senior Liz Barba (Meadville, PA / Meadville), freshman Christina Sherrard (Charleston, WV) and Stephens.
The Dukes (8-5) head south to Towson, Md. for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Towson Tigers on Saturday, January 21, 2006.
