Dukes Shut Out Howard, 3-0, At Davidson Tournament

Davidson, N.C. - Duquesne University's volleyball team won their opening match Friday night at Davidson's Mizuno Wildcat Classic. The Dukes shut out Howard, 3-0, with an average margin of victory of 14.3 points (30-15, 30-15, 30-17).

Senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) paced the Dukes with 16 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Mandy Humphrey (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) returned to double digit kills with 11 winners. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) had 41 sets and nine digs. All three ladies recorded at least a .500 attack percentage this evening.

The Lady Bison were paced by Jenica Leonard's 12 digs while Shannon Grant set up 17 winners.

The win raised DU's record to 4-3 while Howard is now 0-3. In the other match of the tournament's opening day, East Tennessee State knocked off the host Wildcats 3-1 (30-24, 24-30, 30-25, 30-22).

Saturday, the Dukes meet the ETSU Lady Buccaneers (4-1) at 10:00 a.m and then close out the event with their contest against host Davidson (0-5) at 6:00 p.m. Davidson and Howard play at 12:30 p.m. with East Tennessee State and the Lady Bison meeting at 3:00 p.m.
