Pittsburgh, Pa. - Duquesne's volleyball team, led by senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) and freshman Mandy Humphrey (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes), shutout Rider 3-0 early Saturday at the Palumbo Center for DU's second win in the Duquesne Invitational and their third straight victory this season.
Wuebker had a match-best 13 kills while Humphrey added 12 winners. Senior Karisa Decker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) posted a game-best 14 digs and freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) saved 11. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) set up 39 points.
The Dukes won the first game by a comfortable 30-11 score. The Princeton, N.J. program fought back in game two but was unable to overcome DU which held on for a 30-28 win. Duquesne dropped the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association team, 30-22, for the third and clinching victory.
Kristine Dormer recorded 12 kills and Stefanie Lombardo had 13 digs to lead the MAAC team.
Duquesne, which has won their last three matches since dropping the season opener at Eastern Kentucky last weekend, raised their 2005 mark to 3-1. The Broncs are now 0-4 in the early schedule.
Cleveland State (1-1) faces St. Francis (PA) (0-2) later today at 1:30 p.m. with the Red Flash retaking the court at 4:30 p.m. against Rider. The Dukes and CSU close out the two-day event at 7:30 p.m.
