Notre Dame, Ind. - Sophomore Samantha Howard's eighth place finish led Duquesne's women's team Friday at the 35-team National Catholic Cross Country Championships as the Dukes captured second place at this annual event. The Dukes were topped by the host Irish, who won the title for the fourth consecutive time.
Howard's (Moon Township, Pa. / Moon) time was 18:20. Senior Brianne Scott's (Stony Point, N.Y. / North Rockland) time of 18:49 was good for 18th while classmate Tara Gerlach (Erie, Pa. / Villa Maria Academy) finished 21st in the 277-runner competition with a mark of 18:52.
Duquesne second place total was 101, 17 points in front of the third place finisher, Atlantic 10 foe Xavier. Results for the other A-10 programs: Dayton finished fifth, Saint Louis 10th, Saint Joseph's 29th and St. Bonaventure 35th
The Dukes have next weekend off before resuming competition at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational at Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, October 1st at 10:00 a.m.
