Davidson, N.C. - Duquesne University's volleyball team recorded their second shutout at Davidson's Mizuno Wildcat Classic with a 3-0 win over East Tennessee State Saturday morning at the Belk Arena. The game scores were (30-24, 30-22, 30-24).
Junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) led Duquesne with a game-best 17 kills and a .667 attack percentage. Freshman Mandy Humphrey (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) added 13 kills, her fifth double digit winner game in DU's last six contests. Freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) led the defensive action with a game-best 15 digs. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) assisted on 41 points, the same total she recorded in Friday's 3-0 win over Howard.
In the opening game, ETSU grabbed a 5-2 lead which they extended to a 14-8 spread. Duquesne called a timeout at that point, then hit the floor and turned the game around. Humphrey's kill gave DU their first lead, 20-19; East Tennessee was unable to regain the edge the rest of game one. The Dukes outscored the Lady Bucanneers 21-10 after that timeout.
In the next two games, the Dukes took the lead from the first play of each match on the way to 30-22 and 30-24 victories. Duquesne was never behind from the 20-19 point of the opening contest.
Sarah Burr led East Tennessee with 12 kills and Jennifer Emerson had 37 assists.
The Dukes (5-3) close the two-day tournament at 6:00 p.m. against host Davidson. The Wildcats (0-5) play Howard (0-3) at 12:30 p.m. with Howard and East Tennessee (4-2) matching up at 3:00 p.m.
