Duquesne men's basketball head coach Danny Nee has announced the following roster changes for the upcoming season.
Vandrell Rivers (Dothan, Ala./Wicksburg/Southern Union CC), a 5-11, 175-pound point guard from Southern Union State Community College, did not meet NCAA junior college transfer requirements and will not be enrolling at Duquesne. Rivers, who signed a national letter of intent in November, has been released from his commitment allowing him to pursue other opportunities.
Rivers, whose 11.1 assists per game average ranked second nationally last season, committed to the Dukes during the November 2004 early-signing period.
In additional roster news, senior guard Adam Souply (Fayette City, Pa./Frazier), a walk-on for his first three seasons at Duquesne, has been awarded a scholarship for the 2005-06 season. Fellow walk-on Dave Mazza (North East, Pa./North East), who would have been entering his third season as a walk-on, has decided to transfer.
The men's basketball team begins formal practice on Oct. 14, with the season opener vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff set for Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Palumbo Center.
The University started fall semester classes today.
