Dukes Lacrosse Named All-Academic Team

June 29, 2005

The Duquesne University's women's lacrosse team has been named a 2005 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) National Academic Team Award honoree. Thirty-four Division I institutions were recognized for maintaining at least a 3.00 team cumulative team grade point average on a 4.00 scale during the second semester of the 2004-05 academic year.

Duquesne posted a team grade point average of 3.28 to place them on the list. Two squads are recognized by the IWLCA. The top three teams ranked by GPA are designated as Merit Squads while all others with at least a 3.00 or higher are designated as Academic Squads. This IWLCA initiated the program in 2003.

Individually, seven student-athletes were named to the 2005 IWLCA National Honor Roll in Laura App, Caroline Gallagher, Krista Mann, Kelly Mulford, Sarah Pacini, Lyndsy Wittmer and Bree Zeyzus. The IWLCA named 152 student-athletes to the honor roll. To be eligible a player must be a junior or senior and have achieved at least a 3.20 SPA for the spring semester.

Duquesne concluded the 2005 season 13-4 overall, 6-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Dukes were co-Atlantic 10 regular season champions for the second consecutive year.
