DUQUESNE HEADS TO AKRON

Duquesne (0-2), coming off a 77-53 loss at Oakland (Mich.) on Saturday, will make the 110-mile trip west to face Akron (1-0) at 7:00 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Nov. 30 (KQV-AM 1410 radio/www.redzonemedia.com). The Dukes are looking to snap a two-game season-opening losing streak against an Akron team that opened its season with a 67-62 home win over Youngstown State on Saturday.

DUQUESNE LATELY

  • Duquesne has yet to be at full strength for a game this season
  • Leading scorer Bryant McAllister missed the opener vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff while serving a suspension for an off-court incident last summer ... he scored a team-high 15 points in game two at Oakland
  • Sophomore swingman Chauncey Duke, who led the Dukes in assists (5) and rebounds (6) and scored nine points in the season-opener vs. Pine Bluff, missed the game at Oakland to attend the funeral of his grandmother in Missouri ... he made the 12-hour drive back to Pittsburgh on Sunday
  • Duquesne's opponents have made 20 more free throws than the Dukes have attempted (DU is 12-of-19 while opponents are 39-of-47 through two games)
  • The Dukes have been whistled for 42 fouls to 25 for their opponents
  • Duquesne is shooting 27.3% from the 3-point arc (9-of-33) and their opponents are just 8-of-41 (19.5%)
  • Three of the last six meetings between Duquesne and Akron have been overtime affairs.

DUKES VS. ZIPS

This is the 19th meeting in a series that dates back to New Year's Eve 1946 (a 48-43 Duquesne win at Akron) ... in fact, three of the first 16 meetings were on New Year's Eve with all three played at Akron ... the Dukes hold a 12-6 edge in the series, with Akron winning the last four ... in games played at Akron, Duquesne leads 5-4 ... in the last meeting at Akron on Dec. 17, 2003, the Zips defeated the Dukes 64-61 in overtime ... last year, Akron guard Bubba Walther led a Zips 3-point barrage by hitting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc on his way to a team-high 15 points in a 77-65 Akron win at the Palumbo Center ... Bryant McAllister led Duquesne with a game-high 21 points ... Akron connected on 14-of-26 3-point attempts in the victory (a complete box score from last year's game and recap may be found later in the game notes.)
