Oakland Defeats Duquesne, 77-53

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Derick Nelson and Calvin Wooten scored 20 points each to lead Oakland to a 77-53 win over Duquesne on Saturday.

Nelson was only 4-for-10 from the field but shot 12-of-13 from the free-throw line and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Bryant McAllister scored 15 points and had a game-high five assists for Duquesne (0-2), which sunk just seven of its 31 shots in the first half. Jack Higgins added 12 points for the Dukes.

The Golden Grizzlies (3-1) opened the game with a 9-0 run, then took a 37-19 point lead at halftime. They never trailed.

Midway through the second half, Nelson's layup sparked an 11-0 run that gave Oakland a 28-point lead with 6:53 remaining in the game.

Oakland capitalized on the free-throw line, making 20 of 24 shots. Duquesne went to the line just seven times and made four.

David Caron netted 10 points for Oakland, and Patrick McCloskey added six points with a game-high 12 rebounds.
