Three Dukes Named to Volleyball All-Conference Teams

Nov. 16, 2005

Three Duquesne University women's volleyball players have earned post-season Atlantic 10 laurels, announced today by the Atlantic 10 Conference. Leading the group is senior middle hitter Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) who takes her fourth All-Conference award as a second team selection. Joining her on the All-Atlantic 10 list are honorable mention honorees, senior middle hitter Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and sophomore setter Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East). Wuebker also earned a spot on the seven-member A-10 All-Academic list.

Wuebker earns her fourth All-Atlantic 10 honor as she snagged All-Conference laurels the past two years and was tabbed an All-Rookie pick in 2002. The 6-1 middle hitter averaged 3.14 kills, 2.94 digs and 1.01 blocks per game ranking her second among the Dukes. She averaged 2.64 kills, 3.80 digs and 1.14 blocks in Conference games. She earns her second All-Academic accolade posting a 3.59 cumulative grade point average in elementary education. Wuebker was tabbed a 2005 ESPN the Magazine District 2 first team Academic All-America pick as well. She has the distinction of being one of just five Duquesne volleyball players to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Wuebker ends her career as the Dukes' all-time leader in block assists (328) and total blocks (415).

Tinsley earns her first All-Conference honor as an All-Atlantic 10 honorable mention selection. She led the Red & Blue with a career-best 1.34 blocks per game placing her second among A-10 leaders. The 6-0 middle hitter averaged 2.31 kills and became the Dukes' new single season leader with 114 block assists and 127 total blocks. Her Conference-only averages were 2.64 kills and 1.41 blocks. She recorded at least one block in 27 of her 28 matches and registered a career-high eight blocks in three matches. Tinsley also posted a .261 hitting percentage.

Garnet, a 5-8 setter, stood third in the Atlantic 10 with 12.31 assists per game and takes her second All-Conference award after being named to the All-Rookie team last year. She added 2.16 digs and averaged 12.49 assists and 2.26 digs in league play, despite missing the final three contests of the season with an injury. Garnett, a two-year starter, racked-up 1,071 assists on the season putting her two-year total at 2,497 - good for third on the Duquesne career list.

Duquesne concluded the season with a 15-13 mark and posted its third winning season in the past five years. The Dukes have had at least one student-athlete named All-Atlantic 10 in each of the last seven seasons.
