The start of the match was delayed 77 minutes due to late-arriving referees, who were stuck on I-40 outside Durham behind a massive traffic pileup.

The fans were kept entertained by Norm the Niner, who threw volleyball t-shirts and Atlantic 10/Charlotte frisbees into the crowd of 553.

Charlotte's win, their fourth straight victory, evened their overall record at 10-10; the Niners are 4-1 in league play, in second place in the East Division. The Dukes are 10-7, 2-2 in the conference tied for third in the West.

Duquesne will play their second A-10 foe on a 4-match road trip when they take on George Washington (7-11, 1-4) noon Sunday at the Smith Center.
