Bethlehem, Pa. - Duquesne's women's cross country team finished 21st of 47 teams in the 32nd running of the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday at Lehigh University's Goodman Course. Sophomore Samantha Howard again paced the Red and Blue with a time of 21:35.8, good for 42nd place in the 310-athlete competition. The Dukes' average time was 22:30.5.

Senior Brianne Scott came in 97th with a mark of 22:16.2 followed by classmates Tara Gerlach (#135 - 22.35.1) and Rebecca Stearns (#144 - 22:44.2).

Columbia University took first place with an average time of 21:12.7 and Georgetown's Elizabeth Maloy's 20:28.0 won the individual honors.

Other Atlantic 10 programs at this meet were La Salle (7th place), Richmond (#13), Charlotte (#14), Rhode Island (#18), Saint Joseph's (#33), Massachusetts (#38) and George Washington (#39).

The Dukes next competition is back in Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
