League Co-Champion Dukes Earn Post-Season Honors

May 6, 2004

Duquesne University junior midfielder Ginger Flocco (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh), sophomore defender Krista Mann (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and head coach Kim Eldridge were all honored by the Atlantic 10 in post-season awards announced today.

Flocco, who currently ranks seventh nationally in points per game and leads the league with 51 goals, 70 points and 53 draw controls, was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year. Eldridge, who guided the Dukes (13-3, 6-1) to the A-10 regular-season co-Championship and No. 1 seed in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship, was named Coach of the Year for the second time. Eldridge, whose 2004 Dukes set a school record with six Atlantic 10 regular-season wins, was also honored in 2000 when she led the Dukes to a 9-5 mark.

In addition, Flocco and Mann were both named to the All-Conference team for the second consecutive season. Mann, who became the third DU freshman to earn All-Conference honors last season, ranks third in the A-10 in draw controls (45) and has 20 caused turnovers on the season. Flocco, who ranks among DU's top six in career goals, assists and points, enters the A-10 Championship needing five goals to tie the single-season record for goals in a season (56) set by Meghan Hungate in 2001. Flocco's 70 points are also 10 shy of Hungate's single-season record of 80 also set in '01. The Philadelphia area native has also been named to the Academic All-Conference team. She has a 3.24 GPA in elementary education.

Duquesne, which clinched its first ever regular season title with a 15-7 win over La Salle on April 30, heads to Corning, N.Y. for the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend. The top-seeded Dukes face No. 4 seed host St. Bonaventure (10-6, 4-3) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Second-seeded Temple (9-7, 6-1), who tied DU for the regular-season championship, takes on No. 3 seed Massachusetts (6-9, 4-3) in the nightcap. Duquesne earned the top seed by virtue of its 18-5 regular-season win over Temple on March 20.

The winner of the Atlantic 10 Championship will secure one of seven automatic bids to the 16-team 2004 NCAA Championship scheduled to begin on May 13.
