WomensLacrosse.com Again Honors Laura App

May 5, 2004

For the second time in three weeks, Duquesne University's Laura App (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), a junior midfielder, has been named an honorable mention Division I Player of the Week by WomensLacrosse.com. The publication also cited her achievements on April 21, 2004.

App recorded six goals and one assist in the Dukes' wins over Ohio State and La Salle as the Dukes raised their regular season record to 10-3. With a 6-1 Atlantic 10 mark, the Dukes are league co-champions with Temple and, since the Red and Blue recorded the Owls' sole loss in league play, are the number one seed in this weekend's championship tournament.

The Washington, D.C. area native leads the Dukes with four game-winning goals and is second on the team with 36 goals, 17 assists, 53 points and a 53.7 percent scoring accuracy.

Duquesne, which clinched its first ever regular season title with a 15-7 win over La Salle on April 30, heads to Corning, N.Y. for the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend. The top-seeded Dukes face No. 4 seed host St. Bonaventure (10-6, 4-3) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The winner of the Atlantic 10 Championship will secure one of seven automatic bids to the 16-team 2004 NCAA Championship scheduled to begin on May 13.
