Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Danny Nee and University of Richmond coach Jerry Wainwright will both don sneakers at courtside for Saturday's Atlantic 10 game between the Dukes and Spiders at the Palumbo Center. The special footwear will be worn in recognition of National Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Day. Nee and Wainwright will be joining coaches across the country in using the "sneaker" symbol to convey to the college basketball community that the Coaches vs. Cancer program is alive and thriving after nine years.
"Anything we can do to help raise awareness and draw attention to the fact that the fight for a cancer cure is ongoing I'm for," said Nee. "Coach Wainwright and I have the utmost respect for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. I don't think I've worn sneakers to a game since I played. I'll be fine as long as Jerry and I don't have to get out on the court."
The coaches and their staffs are asking that everyone attending games on Saturday - including fans and media - also wear sneakers as a show of their support for the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.
The Philly Six Coaches vs. Cancer in conjunction with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) organized the event.
