Red and Blue Places 8th of 11 at Akron Invite

The Duquesne University women's swimming team placed eighth of 11 teams at the 2004 Akron Invitational. Junior Jillian Rupinski set two school records during the three-day event, swimming a 1:06.35 in Saturday's 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries before setting a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke on Sunday, finishing third in 2:23.71. The 200-yard breststroke record was the Univeristy's oldest standing record which dated back to 1999.

Fellow junior Sarah Breisinger set a new school record as well, breaking her previous record in the 200-yard backstroke on Sunday with a time of 2:07.08. Duquesne's 200-yard medley relay team of Breisinger, Rupinski, Laura Kephart and Deidre Rodeheaver also set a new school standard, finishing third in 1:48.32.

The Red and Blue conclude the first half of their season and will head to Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Tuesday, Dec. 28 for Christmas break training.
