ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Doron Perkins scored 24 points and Tristan Parham had 10 points and 11 rebounds Friday night as Santa Clara opened the season with a 74-65 win over Duquesne at the NABC Classic.
The Broncos (1-0) took a 13-4 lead and stayed in control the rest of the way.
Jack Higgins led Duquesne (0-1) with 15 points.
The Dukes had four players in double figures and twice got within five points in the second half, the last time at 70-65 on a pair of free throws by Kieron Achara with 1:06 left.
Kyle Bailey hit four free throws in the final 57 seconds for Santa Clara.
Santa Clara led 40-27 at halftime. A 3-pointer by Perkins made it 45-30 early in the second half and Duquesne then went on a 10-0 run to get within 45-40 with 12:48 left.
The Broncos scored the next seven points. Linden Tibbets hit a free throw, Travis Niesen scored back-to-back baskets and Brody Angley hit an 18-foot jumper to stretch the lead to 52-40.
Bryant McAllister scored 12 points for Duquesne, all in the second half. Achara had 11 points and Keith Gayden scored 10.
