Rice Quiets Dukes, 3-0

Houston, Texas - Duquesne's volleyball team dropped their opening game of the Crowne Plaza/ Rice Invitational to the host Owls by a 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-19) mark Friday night at RU's Autry Court. The Dukes were led by senior Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas/ Robert E. Lee) who had 12 kills and junior Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Baldwin) with a game-high 14 digs. Senior Sarah Brown (Glen Rock, Pa./ Susquehannock) added 30 assists. Duquesne and Rice now both have 3-2 records.

After dropping the first game, the Dukes opened strong in the next match taking a 9-1 lead. Rice rallied back to tie the game at 19 and then went on to the 30-24 victory.

Morrow, a native of a Houston suburb, this past week was named to the Duquesne/ Robert Morris Invitational All-Tournament Team and was honored as one of Duquesne's Student-Athletes of the Week.

Rebeca Pazo led the Owls with 24 kills. Kristina Hoban had 47 assists and Rebekah Neal had 13 digs.

The tournament continues on Saturday with the Dukes facing Purdue (3-1) at 10 a.m. DU then meets McNeese State (1-3) at 4:30 p.m. Purdue held off McNeese State 3-1 (30-21, 30-23, 29-31, 32-30) earlier on Friday.
