Carter and Warfield Earn MAAC POW Honors

Oct. 20, 2003

Duquesne University middle linebacker Harry Carter (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week for his performance in DU's MAAC title-clinching 39-7 win over Saint Peter's on Saturday. In addition, junior receiver Michel Warfield (Oxon Hill, Md./Bishop McNamara) earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Carter totaled a game-high 14 tackles (9 solo) including two tackles for loss in the win. Carter, who won the award last week for his 17 tackle effort at Iona, leads the Dukes with 77 stops on the season.

Warfield caught 8 passes for 173 yards including touchdown passes of 24 and 20 yards in the win. The catches and yards were both career highs for Warfield, who has now topped the 100-yard receiving mark four times this season. Warfield currently ranks fourth nationally among NCAA I-AA receivers with an average of 109.14 yards receiving per game. In his last two games, the 6-1, 180-pounder has averaged 29.9 yards per catch (11-329) with four touchdowns.

Duquesne (5-2, 4-0), which clinched its fifth consecutive MAAC title on Saturday, is off this weekend before heading to Kentucky to face Morehead State in a non-conference match-up on Nov. 1.

By virtue of its win over Saint Peter's the Dukes - who have won seven of the last nine league titles - will host the 2003 ECAC Classic on Nov. 22. The game matches the winner of the Northeast Conference vs. the MAAC champion.
