Javonn Bradley Named MAAC Rookie of the Week

Sept. 23, 2002

Freshman safety Javonn Bradley (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Rookie of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's 36-0 MAAC Football League win over Marist on Saturday.

The Rochester High School product follows DU back-up quarterback Ben Palumbo who won MAAC Rookie of the Week honors last week.

Bradley, a converted linebacker, made his first career start at safety versus the Red Foxes and responded with a team high-tying seven tackles. The 6-0, 200-pounder posted one tackle for loss and also forced a fumble as Duquesne held Marist to 66 net yards on 49 total plays. DU's standout effort vaulted the defense to the top spot nationally in total defense among Division I-AA schools at 159.0 yards allowed per game.

The Dukes (3-0), currently ranked No. 2 in The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Poll, head to Dayton (3-0) to face the top-ranked Flyers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dukes can be heard on Fox Sports Radio Pittsburgh, WBGG-AM 970, and on the web at RedZoneMedia.com.
