Dukes Improve to 2-0

Duquesne upped its record to 2-0 this afternoon with a 3-2 victory over Western Illinois in day two's action of the Duquesne Invitational. The Dukes took game one 30-23 before Western Illinois captured game two 30-22 and game three 30-28. The Red & Blue rebounded to win game four 30-19 and took the fifth and deciding game by a score of 15-8.

Senior Sarah Morrow led the match with 20 kills and hit .333 (20-6-42) for the match. Freshman Diana Wuebker recorded 14 kills and 17 digs while Jacqui Gerlach and Erin Trageser notched 13 kills. Trageser led the Dukes with 20 digs and a match-best three service aces. Sarah Brown recorded 55 assists to lead the contest. Western Illinois was led by Jessica Manning with 19 kills and a match-best 21 digs.

The day opened with West Virginia taking a 3-0 sweep over Liberty to improve to 2-0 on the season. Dimitra Havriluk posted 15 kills followed by Stephanie Zolna's 14 to lead the match. Havriluk added a match-best 15 digs while Brandice Studnicka landed a match-high four service aces. Liberty was paced by Jennifer Belk with 13 kills and 12 digs.

The Invitational action continues this evening beginning at 5:00 pm as Western Illinois faces Liberty and the Dukes host West Virginia at 7:00 pm.
