Duquesne University's head women's volleyball coach Steve Opperman has announced the signing of Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2002 season.
Tinsley, a 6-0 middle hitter, is a three-time first team All-Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC) selection and team MVP. She was chosen for the Southwest Ohio Senior Showcase this past season and is a four-year letterwinner. Tinsley reigned as the 2001 FAVC statistical leader in blocks (105) and kills (225) and was eighth in digs with 130. She also was named a FAVC Athlete of the Week.
Tinsley lettered in basketball as well earning 2001 All-Southwest special mention honors and was named a Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star Team selection.
A member of the National Honor Society, she plans to major in pre-med at Duquesne.
Tinsley joins Jessica Eckert (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen), Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) who signed National Letters of Intent in the early signing period.
Duquesne finished 16-10 overall, 8-8 in the Atlantic 10 this past season marking the team's most wins since the 1996 season. At the conclusion of the year, Coach Opperman was lauded as the Atlantic 10 Co-Coach of the Year while senior Sherene Lemonias was tabbed to the All-Conference team.
