Duquesne Boasts Four All-Conference Picks

May 2, 2002

Four Duquesne University student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse All-Conference team today in seniors Katie Harner (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), Kristin Harner (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), Lauren Dutch (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Kelly Dawson (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East). The A-10 All-Conference team is voted on by league head coaches. Only nationally-ranked Temple placed more players on the team.

Katie Harner (above) takes her fourth All-Conference honor leading the Dukes on attack. She posted a team-best 19 assists this past season while adding 26 goals for a team-best 45 points. She stood ninth in the Atlantic 10 in overall scoring and ranked 19th in the NCAA in assists per game. Harner was also a 2001 Mid-Atlantic 10 Regional All-America selection and a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Championship honoree. She is first in career assists with 100 and second with 220 career points.

Kristin Harner, (right) a midfielder, earns her second All-Conference award leading the Red & Blue with 27 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. She is second on the team with 35 goals and third with 40 points adding five assists. Her 35 goals ranks ninth on the Duquesne single-season list. A two-time All-Atlantic 10 championship pick, Harner was named a 2001 Mid-Atlantic Regional All-America selection.

Lauren Dutch (left) receives her second All-Atlantic 10 citation as she was also named in 1999. She has helped lead the Dukes' attack with a team-best 37 goals and is second overall with 43 points and 16 draw controls. Dutch ranks third at Duquesne in career goals with 127 and is third with 74 draws won. Her 37 goals put her in a tie for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in overall goals.

Kelly Dawson, (right) a defender, earns her first All-Conference laurel helping the Dukes become ranked nationally in scoring defense this season. Looked to mark the opponent's top scoring threat, Dawson is a strong and consistent presence on the field where she has forced 10 opponent turnovers and won eight draw controls. On her career, she has 87 ground balls and 71 caused turnovers. Offensively, Dawson recorded one goal on one shot this season as well.

Duquesne finished the regular season with a 6-9 overall mark and 4-3 Atlantic 10 record. The Dukes are seeded fourth in this year's A-10 championship, which begins Friday, May 3 on Duquesne's Rooney Field. The Dukes will face top-seeded Temple at 11:00 am on opening day followed by Richmond vs. UMass at 1:00 pm. The Championship game is slated for Saturday, May 4, at 2:00 pm. The winner earns an automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
