Duquesne's volleyball sextet lost to Dayton Tuesday night as the Flyers took all three games, 30-19, 30-21, 30-28. The Dukes 2001 record is now 16-8, 8-6 in league play.
After dropping the first two games by 11 and nine points respectively, the Dukes fought back in game three surging to a 27-23 lead after a series of blocks. But the Flyers (20-4, 13-1 A10) displayed why they hold the top spot in the conference, winning seven of the next eight points.
Freshman Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park) led the red and blue with 10 kills. Senior Sherene Lemonias (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/R.H. King Academy) and sophomore Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas/Robert E. Lee) each had 12 digs. (Morrow is pictured above)
The Dukes head to New England this weekend for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Rhode Island on Friday and a Saturday evening match at Massachusetts (14-11, 7-8 A10), also at 7:00 p.m. The Rams (15-10, 11-4 A10) clinched a playoff spot Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Fordham. The other two set spots are held by Dayton and Xavier (21-3, 11-3 A-10),
The last spot in the conference championship is between the Dukes, Temple (17-9, 8-6 A10) and UMass. The Owls and Dukes, who split the season series, are currently tied for fourth place.
