The Dukes' lacrosse team improved to 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, 5-8 overall with a 14-7 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon on Rooney Field. The Dukes were led by Lauren Dutch (left) with four goals and Ginger Flocco with three goals while Katie Harner and Becca West each added two goals. Lauren Mincher led the game with two assists and added a goal as well. Kelly Butler led the Hawks with two goals while Shannon Hungate and Amie Schmoltze added one goal and one assist each.
Dutch opened the game's scoring 1:38 into the action with an unassisted goal and posted her second score at the 9:58 mark for a 2-0 Duquesne lead. The Red & Blue grabbed a 4-0 edge as Flocco scored on a free position shot before Katie Harner's feed to Dutch at 11:43. Saint Joseph's got on the board in the 13th minute as Kristen Teklinsky scored a free position goal. The Dukes rattled off five unanswered goals afterward for a 9-1 lead with seven minutes remaining. Butler scored for SJU at 27:19 followed by Schmoltze's free position goal at 29:28 a 9-3 DU advantage. Dutch ended the first half's scoring with her fourth goal of the contest to give the Dukes a 10-3 margin at the half.
Lyndsy Wittmer found the back of the net for the Dukes :45 into the second frame's action for an 11-3 edge. Katie Harner scored from twin sister Kristin Harner in the 32nd minute before Saint Joseph's Megan Gresh notched a goal in the 34th minute. Flocco netted a goal from Mincher at the 37:05 mark for a 13-4 lead. SJU scored in the 47th minute, but saw the Dukes answer back as Kristin Harner scored from West in the 49th minute for a 14-5 edge. The Hawks closed out the game with goals from Butler in the 52nd minute and Hungate in the 56th minute.
The Dukes end their home season on Sunday as they host George Washington in a 1:00 pm contest.
