Dukes Complete 2002-03 Recruiting Class

April 12, 2002

Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Danny Nee announced that Ronald Dokes (South Bend, Ind./Riley HS/Lincoln Trail College), a 6-9, 240-pound forward from Lincoln Trial College, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Dukes next season. The signing of Dokes completes DU's five-man 2002-03 recruiting class.

Dokes averaged 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in earning NJCAA All-Region 24 First Team honors for Lincoln Trail College (Robinson, Ill.) this past season.

"Ronald is a quality player who is really going to help us inside," said Nee. "His strength is his rebounding. He comes from a great high school program and he's been a winner everywhere he's been."

Dokes, who averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior in 1999-00 at South Bend Riley HS, was named second team all-state by the Hoop Scoop. He originally signed with Ball State prior to enrolling at Lincoln Trail. Dokes averaged 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a freshman, before improving to 12.0 ppg. and 6.7 rpg. this past season.

Dokes, who shot 55 percent from the field in 2001-02, will have two years of eligibility at Duquesne.

The addition of Dokes gives Nee and his staff some much-needed bulk for the upcoming season. Last year, the Dukes' roster featured just three scholarship players over 210 pounds (230-pound junior Chris Clark, 225-pound freshman Simplice Njoya and 220-pound senior Wayne Smith). Duquesne's six new faces for 2002-03 measure up ? and weigh in ? at a combined 6-7, 225.
