Coordinator Of Basketball Operations Resigns

June 7, 2002

Duquesne University men's basketball coach Danny Nee announced the resignation of coordinator of basketball operations Adrian Townsend effective June 4. Townsend, who served for one season on Nee's staff, has accepted an full-time assistant coach position at Eastern Michigan.

"This is a great opportunity for Adrian," said Nee. "I'm sure he'll do a great job recruiting for coach Boone at Eastern Michigan. Adrian was an asset to our staff and we'll miss him. At the same time we want to wish him the best."

Townsend, a former standout player at California University of Pennsylvania, began his playing career under Duquesne assistant coach John Mahoney at Our Lady of Sacred Heart High School in Coraopolis, Pa. He them moved on to California University where he continued as a player under current Eastern Michigan coach Jim Boone from 1987-90. As an undergrad, Townsend was part of one PSAC championship team while setting a school record for career assists. Townsend ? who completed his undergraduate degree in 1991 ? began his coaching career at California, where he served as a student and graduate assistant under Boone for three seasons.

Townsend used the experience gained from his graduate assistant position to land his first full-time coaching position at Mansfield University in 1993-94. After one season at Mansfield, Townsend moved on to St. Francis, Pa. where he was an assistant on Tom McConnell's staff for one season. He spent time in private business prior to joining the Duquesne staff.
