The women's swimming team opened day one of three of the Akron Invitational, participating in two events, the 1650-yard freestyle and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman Amy Gersbach placed 10th of 31 swimmers in the 1650 free while the 800 free relay team of Annie Baldassari, Kathy Smucler, Elizabeth Barba and Deidre Rodeheaver finished seventh of 19 teams.

The Dukes will partake in a full day of swimming action on Friday and Saturday.
