The rifle team opened the 2002-03 season by defeating two of three opponents at Virginia Military Institute.

In smallbore action, the Dukes had a team score of 4497 which trailed Ohio State's 4540 and led North Carolina State's 4360 and VMI's 4249. Junior Sara Barker (Simi Valley, CA / Royal) was the top shooter for the Dukes with an 1139.

In air rifle, Ohio State led the way again with a 1516, followed by Duquesne's 1478, NC State's 1438 and VMI's 1394. Senior Jennifer Ma (Honolulu, HI / Sacred Hearts Academy) paced the Red and Blue with a 378.

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 as they travel to Philadelphia for a match with the host University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and John Jay College (NY, NY).
