Budi Susanto enters his fifth season as Duquesne’s Director of Tennis in 2026-27 after being appointed to the role in August 2022. He oversees both the men’s and women’s tennis programs and is the 13th individual in program history to hold the position.

Under his leadership, both the men’s and women’s teams advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament during the 2025-26 season, with each program also posting winning records at home. The women’s team finished 4-1 at the Oxford Athletic Club, while the men’s team compiled a 4-2 home mark. Alfrendo Vogelaar highlighted the men’s squad by capturing the B Flight singles championship at the YSU Invitational and earning Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honors. Enrique Lana also received postseason recognition, earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honors.

The 2024–25 season was a historic one for the Duquesne women’s tennis team, as they advanced to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since the 2020–21 campaign. The Dukes secured a dominant 4-0 sweep over No. 11 seed George Mason to reach the milestone. Under the leadership of Susanto, the team posted an 11-8 overall record—tying for the most wins since the 2021–22 season—and went 5-1 in conference play, their best A-10 mark since the 2018–19 season (6). Individually, Kaya Rand earned her first career postseason recognition, being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team. On the men’s side, Duquesne secured a berth in the A-10 tournament, with standout Alfrendo Vogelaar earning CSC Academic All-District® Team honors.

In the 2023–24 season, Susanto guided the Duquesne men’s tennis team to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship, following a 4-1 win over No. 9 seed Fordham. The Dukes finished the year with an 8-12 overall record. On the women’s side, Duquesne posted a 7-13 mark. Individually, Kaipo Marshall led the way for the men's team, earning First Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season and securing a spot on the All-Academic Team. For the women, Daniela Latoni paced the Dukes by receiving Second Team All-Conference recognition for the second straight year.

In his first season on the Bluff, Susanto led both Duquesne tennis teams to .500 records and Atlantic 10 tournament appearances. The women’s team finished 9-9 overall with a 3-2 mark in conference play, while the men’s squad posted an 8-8 record. Susanto's debut season featured strong individual performances, with four players earning postseason honors. Kaipo Marshall was named First Team All-Conference, David Georgadze earned Second Team recognition, and Jin Dassanayake was selected to the A-10 All-Academic Team. On the women’s side, Daniela Latoni earned Second Team All-Conference honors.

Under Susanto’s leadership, the program has produced 26 student-athletes who have earned recognition on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team and 30 student-athletes who have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. Susanto has also guided seven All-Conference selections (First and Second Team) and three A-10 All-Academic honorees.

Susanto has lived and worked in the Pittsburgh area for more than 20 years and is deeply familiar with the Duquesne tennis program. He arrives on the Bluff after serving as Director of Tennis at Alpha Tennis and Fitness, where the Dukes played their home matches from 2017 to 2025. As of 2025, he serves as Director of Racquet Sports at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pa., which currently serves as the home court for the Duquesne tennis teams.

During his time at Alpha Tennis and Fitness, Susanto focused on developing programs for some of the region’s top-ranked junior tennis players, whose competitors regularly participated in national, international, and professional tournaments. His trainees went on to capture high school sectional titles, Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) championships, and state championships in both singles and doubles.

His coaching has helped produce student-athletes who have earned scholarships to more than a dozen Division I programs, including Cornell, Penn State, Georgetown, Denison, and Duquesne, among others.
In 2018, Susanto was named the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Allegheny Mountain Middle States District Teaching Professional of the Year. Prior to his tenure at Alpha Tennis and Fitness, he served as Director of Tennis at Lakevue Athletic Club in Valencia, Pa., from 2015 to 2017.

Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years (beginning in 2001) at the Pennsylvania Tennis Academy in Wexford, Pa., where he served as Director of Program Development. His first collegiate coaching experience came at his alma mater, the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he worked as assistant head coach of the women’s team, overseeing daily practices, providing individual instruction, and assisting with recruiting, budgeting, and transportation.

Susanto was a student-athlete at SUNY-Buffalo from 1998-2001 and ranks 26th all-time in singles victories with 37. He helped lead the men’s team to a 14-7 overall record in his final season.
