Kory Gribbin joined the Duquesne coaching staff in the summer of 2019, working with the defensive backs as well as recruiting coordinator and assistant special teams coordinator.Â
In his first season on The Bluff in 2019, Gribbin's defensive backs helped the Dukes lead the Northeast Conference (NEC) and rank seventh in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in pass defense, holding the opposition to 168.8 yards through the air per game. Duquesne closed out the year 10th in the country in total defense, limiting opposing teams to 298.4 yards per game.Â
Defensive back Reid Harrison-Ducros garnered First Team All-NEC honors for the Dukes, ranking second in the NEC with four interceptions on the season.Â
Gribbin came to Duquesne after spending the last four seasons on staff at Akron, most recently serving as the Zips' tight ends/H-backs coach while assisting with special teams in 2018.Â
Following the 2018 season, Gribbin was selected by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to participate in its 2019 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute, a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession. Gribbin was chosen from a field of hundreds of applicants - In order to be eligible, applicants had to be born on or after January 1, 1984, and must be currently serving as a high school head coach, two-year college full-time assistant or head coach, or NAIA/NCAA (all divisions) full-time or head coach.The 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute took place at the AFCA Convention in San Antonio, Texas in January 2019.Â
Gribbin joined the Akron coaching staff in 2015 as a defensive graduate assistant where he worked with the linebackers and defensive backs for a pair of seasons. Gribbin then moved into quality control for the Zips’ offense for the 2017 campaign before his promotion to tight ends coach in the spring of 2018.
The Gibsonia, Pa. native began his coaching career at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. where he coached the defensive backs and returners on special teams. Gribbin coached All-American Honorable Mention cornerback Leondre Simmons, All-Region safety James Holley-Grisham as well as All-Liberty League safety Evan Lapice. Under his guidance, the Saints were the top-ranked team in Division III in pass defense, fewest passing yards allowed and defensive passing efficiency.Â
Gribbin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Westminster (Pa.) in 2014, where he was a wide receiver and return specialist for the Titans. He was named the 2013 Unsung Male Athlete of the Year and also earned a spot on the 2014 All-PAC Academic Honor Roll and the 2013 Titan Leadership Council. He also earned a master’s degree in sport science/administration from Akron in 2016.
Gribbin resides in Sewickley with his wife, Jenny.Â
