Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University football team extended its home-opening winning streak to 19 consecutive games with a 53-0 victory over Rio Grande on Saturday at Rooney Field.
The Dukes scored on five of their first six possessions and earned their first win of the season (1-3) in their nonconference finale. Duquesne outgained the Red Storm 500-43 in total offense.
All seven Duquesne touchdowns were scored by different players. Quarterback
Carson Camp completed 16 of 21 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, tying his career high. He connected with
Ness Davis,
Zae-Mear Correll and
Khiryn Boyd for touchdown passes, while
Shawn Solomon, Jr.,
Myles Walker,
Dazhaun Hopkins and Cameron Oliver each scored on the ground.
The Duquesne defense held Rio Grande to seven first downs, 15 rushing yards and 28 passing yards.
Zion Patillo led the Dukes with a safety, a career-high five tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Patillo's safety capped a three-play drive in which he recorded back-to-back sacks before adding a tackle for loss in the end zone for the defensive score.
Nico Pate and
Michael Wright each recorded six tackles to lead the Dukes.
Luke Miller added an interception, returning it 47 yards to set up Duquesne at the Rio Grande 9-yard line in the second quarter.

- Duquesne recorded its 19th consecutive home-opening victory and improved to 21-1 under head coach Jerry Schmitt in home openers.
- The Dukes improved to 20-3 against non-Division I opponents since joining the FCS in 1993. Rio Grande competes at the NAIA level.
- Duquesne improved to 36-4 under Schmitt in nonconference home games.
- The 53-point margin of victory was Duquesne's largest in a home opener under Schmitt, who is in his 22nd season.
- The Dukes recorded back-to-back 50-point performances in their home opener for the first time under Schmitt.
- Duquesne recorded its second home-opening shutout under Schmitt.
- The Dukes have recorded a shutout in seven consecutive seasons.
- Patillo's safety was Duquesne's first since Sept. 25, 2021, when a Virginia-Lynchburg snap went over the quarterback's head and through the end zone.
- Khiryn Boyd and Zae-Mear Correll recorded their first career touchdowns. Ness Davis recorded his first career receiving touchdown, while Myles Walker recorded his first career rushing touchdown.
- The Duquesne defense recorded 13 tackles for loss and four sacks. Eight players registered a tackle for loss: Zion Patillo (4.0, including 2.0 sacks, both career highs), Nico Pate (2.0, a career high), Brock Janeda (2.0, first of his career), Jacob Logan (1.0 sack, first of his career), Adrian Ramirez (1.0 sack), Zach Chambers (1.0), Michael Wright (1.0) and Kris Chester (1.0, first two career tackles).
- Jacob Logan recorded the first sack of his career.
- Luke Miller recorded his second career interception and first of the season.
- Cameron Oliver recorded career highs with 13 rushing attempts and 97 rushing yards, adding one touchdown. The Duquesne rushing offense totaled 251 yards as a unit.
- Ten players had a reception, led by Ryan Petras and Trey Graham with three each.
- Duquesne is now 19-0 since 2023 when scoring more than 30 points and 17-0 during that span when leading after the first quarter.
- Duquesne honored 42 student-athletes and managers during a pregame recognition.
