Youngstown, Ohio – The Duquesne University football team fell 70-13 at No. 10 Youngstown State on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.
The Dukes opened the scoring on their first drive, with
Matt Clark connecting on a 25-yard field goal. The Penguins answered with a touchdown on each of their first seven possessions to take a 49-10 halftime lead. Youngstown State scored on 10 of its 12 possessions in the game.
Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard, the 2025 FCS Offensive Player of the Year, accounted for eight touchdowns, including six passing and two rushing. He completed 20-of-23 passes for 290 yards and ran for 111 yards.
Carson Camp connected with
Ryan Petras on a 22-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter for the first Duquesne touchdown of the season, cutting the deficit to 21-10. Petras finished with three receptions for 52 yards, including two catches of more than 20 yards.
Zae-Mear Correll added three receptions for 31 yards.
Clark knocked through a second field goal in the fourth quarter, hitting from 49 yards for a career long and the second-longest made field goal in Duquesne program history.
Ness Davis paced the Dukes on the ground with 88 yards on 11 carries. His 36-yard run on the opening drive featured a highlight-reel leap over a defender and helped set up the opening score.
Luke Miller led the Duquesne defense with 10 tackles.
Michael Wright and
Will Martin each recorded six tackles and teamed up for a tackle for loss in their second career games.
Caleb Jones added six tackles for the second consecutive week to open the season.
NOTES
- Matt Clark's 49-yard field goal ranks second in Duquesne program history behind Charlie Leventry's 51-yarder against Wagner in 2011. It marked the Dukes' first made field goal of 45 or more yards since 2021.
- Carson Camp tallied his first passing touchdown as a Duke.
- Charbel Latouf made his collegiate debut and had two rushing attempts.
- Drew Cook caught his first career reception.
- Thirty Dukes recorded a tackle. Will Kocher (solo TFL), Mekhi Bradley, Matt Clark, Michael Captline and Charlie Young all charted their first career tackles.
- Duquesne has now faced a ranked FCS opponent in four consecutive seasons. Youngstown State, ranked No. 10 in both the coaches and media polls, was the sixth top-10 FCS opponent in program history.
- Kickoff was delayed 27 minutes to 2:27 p.m. due to lightning.
