Indianapolis, Ind. – The Duquesne University lacrosse team fell to a second-half Butler rally, dropping a 16–11 decision on the road Sunday afternoon.
Duquesne battled to an 8–8 tie in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs seized control with an 8–1 run and secured the victory.
Senior attack
Emma Raines led the Dukes in scoring for the fourth time in five games this season, finishing with four goals on six shots.
Junior
Gracin Emerson continued her strong start to the season with six assists and one goal for seven points and has now tallied four or more assists in every game to open the year.
Addison Scanlon,
Mia Piocquidio and
Chelsea Evans each scored twice for Duquesne.
Scanlon added one assist, matched a career high with four ground balls and collected a career-best three draw controls.
Faith Conaty also picked up four ground balls, while
Casey McBride caused a game-high four turnovers.
Madison Welch contributed three draw controls.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ella Roach recorded an early season-high 12 saves.
The Dukes trailed 5–2 after the opening frame but cut the deficit to 8–6 at halftime with a 3–1 run to close the second quarter. Raines began the second half with her third goal of the day, and Emerson followed four minutes later to even the score at 8–8. Butler responded with four straight goals to spark its decisive 8–1 stretch and pull away in the fourth quarter.

Duquesne opens Atlantic 10 Conference play next Sunday, March 8, at Saint Joseph's. First draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
