LIFT OFF
Turning into the most consistent performer for Duquesne during her time on the Bluff, sophomore
Sasha Petrochko picked up right where she left off last fall in taking home the top score individually for the Dukes. She finished two-under par for the tournament at 214, opening with a 70 (-2) before handing in a 73 (+1) in the second round. Each of the first two rounds were played Saturday. Petrochko closed the tournament with a 71 (-1) Sunday to finish under par for the tournament, the first student-athlete in program history to accomplish the feat. Petrochko closed in a tie for sixth individually with Mi Li of Penn, who posted rounds of 72, 71 and 71, respectively, over the course of the tournament.
INSIDE THE PERFORMANCE
Petrochko collected a total of nine birdies throughout the Space Coast Classic, presented by MoonGolf, including four in the first round. She bogeyed No. 3, a 339-yard par four, before collecting birdies on each of the next two holes. Even through nine holes, she added birdies on a pair of holes that were a par three, including No. 13, at 149 yards, and No. 17, at 175 yards. It helped her finish the round two under. She parlayed that performance into two more birdies on the front nine in round two, each a par five. At No. 1, she birdied the longest hole on the course at 505 yards before also earning a birdie at No. 9, which measured 490 yards. The final round saw Petrochko earn birdies again on holes four and nine as well as on No. 16, a 365-yard par four.
