Duquesne Drops Decision at George Mason

Patriots earn 1-0 win in game played in remnants of Hurricane Isaias

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's soccer team opened a two-game road trip Sunday, falling to George Mason, 1-0, in Fairfax, Va., at George Mason Stadium. The Dukes slipped to 5-6-3 (.464) overall during the 2026 campaign, including 2-2-2 (.500) in the Atlantic 10.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Playing in the remnants of Hurricane Isaias, which moved up the east coast Saturday into Sunday, the Dukes and Patriots battled through wet conditions with steady rain throughout the contest. Duquesne came out looking to capitalize early, getting a pair of shots off in the first minute of action, both of which came courtesy of senior forward Kaitlyn Killinger. Libby Davy of the Patriots, however, made saves on both shots to keep the game scoreless. George Mason broke through to score the game's only goal at 25:50. An opportunity down the far sideline saw Keira Jeffries of the Patriots move the ball across the top of the box before connecting with Amy Angel. Looking to split the defense and get off a shot, the ball ricocheted off a Duquesne defender and found Mia Casciani, who connected for a dribbler that got past senior goalkeeper Ali Hughes and nestled into the bottom left corner of the net.

UNDER PRESSURE
Duquesne stayed on the attack the majority of the contest, owning a 17-5 cushion in shots, including 4-2 on frame. Davy made three saves for George Mason in the first 22 minutes of the game but just one afterward, which came at 52:12 as redshirt freshman Julia Bursick rifled a shot into the middle that Davy was able to wrap up. The Dukes got off eight shots in the final 33 minutes of play but were unable to come up with the equalizer.

NOTES
Killinger finished with a season-high five shots for the Dukes and owns eight over the last two games after compiling seven shots in the previous four contests … The goal for Caciani of the Patriots was her eighth of the campaign … Hughes finished with one save, which came in the second half … Sophomore Grace Ferency posted a career-high four shots in a career-high 56 minutes … Ferency entered Sunday's game with four shots on the year in six games … Four Dukes played a full 90 minutes, including seniors Reagan Basehore, Anna Bundy and Jayden Sharpless and freshman Lily De Jesus.
