Kuchera’s Bronze Medal Leads Women on Day 1 of Atlantic 10 Championships

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Duquesne women's track & field opened the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday with freshman Rose Kuchera taking the bronze medal in the long jump.

LIVE RESULTS

Kuchera, who was named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice in the outdoor season, set a distance of 5.91 meters (19' 4.75"), a personal best and good for the fourth-best distance in program history. Kuchera recorded one of Duquesne's five top-five finishes on the day and tallied 6 of Duquesne's 9 points.

QUALIFIERS
Sophomore Anna Rorrer set the fifth-best time in the 400-meter hurdles in Duquesne history with her time of 1:01.25, good for fifth in the preliminary round. Eva Leatherman will join Rorrer in the 400-meter hurdles on Sunday at 12:55 pm after finishing in seventh place with a personal-best time of 1:01.85. 

Rorrer also took fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.20 seconds — good enough for a spot in Sunday's finals at 11:45 am.

Mara Whalen finished in third place in the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:29.98. With her finish, Whalen qualified for the finals tomorrow at 11:20 a.m.

Senior Amy Allen won her heat and placed fifth overall in the 400 meters with a time of 55.44, securing a spot in Sunday's final at 12:10 pm.

POINT SCORERS
Freshman Nadia Constantakis took eighth place in the pole vault, adding a point to the team total. Constantakis cleared a height of 3.68 meters (12-0.75). 

Megan Penrod added 2 points with her seventh-place finish in the javelin. Penrod notched a distance of 38.94 meters (127-9). 

LOOKING AHEAD
Duquesne currently sits in a tie for eighth place with 9 team points with five of 22 events scored.

Senior Halle Walcutt currently sits in third place in the heptathlon with her score of 3,038. Walcutt won the 200m with a 25.27, third in the shot put at 11.23m (36-10.25), fifth in 100m hurdles at 14.91 and eighth in high jump clearing 1.58m (5-2.25). The long jump, javelin and 800m remain for Day 2.

The women's 10,000 meters will take place at 9:15 A.M. on Sunday. It was postponed due to inclement weather on Saturday. Gina Bolla will represent the Dukes in the event.
