Wexford, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak, securing a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club. With the win, the Dukes secure its first conference win of the season (1-4) while improving to 3-9 overall.
Duquesne captured the doubles point by taking two of three matches. At second doubles, freshmen
Arnau Anton Garcia and
Uvan Patel secured a 6-1 win over Marthinus Marais and Alex Kim before classmates
Tancredi Alfano and
Enrique Lana won by forfeit at the third spot. Juniors
Keita Duclos and
Alfrendo Vogelaar dropped a 7-6 (7-4) decision to Connor Turner and Anargha Ganguly at the top spot.
In singles action, the Dukes won the final four matches to take the win. At the number one spot, Vogelaar fell to Turner 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 before Duclos dropped a 7-5, 6-0 match to Ganguly. At third singles, Anton Garcia downed Kim, 6-3, 6-1 before Lana blanked Marais 6-0, 6-0 at the four spot. At the last two singles matches, Alfano and freshman
Teo Papadopoulos each won by forfeit.
