Orlando, Fla. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team had its season come to an end on Friday morning, falling to No. 3 seed Richmond, 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the USTA National Campus. With the loss, the Dukes finish the season 11-8 overall and 5-1 during conference action.
In doubles competition, the Spiders took the early point, taking two of the first three matches. Sophomore
Mila Badics and junior
Kaya Rand fell to Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico at the top spot before freshmen
Denisse Arinez Guilarte and
Sofia Lopez-Linares Perez dropped a 6-2 decision to Lainey O'Neil and Claire Le Du at the three spot.
It was a battle in during singles play but Richmond would take three of six matches to secure the win. At fifth singles junior
Taisia Yakunina fell to Novak 6-1, 6-1 before sophomore
Alexandra O'Brien was dealt a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 loss to Le Du at fourth singles. At the top spot, Badics dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Barbulescu. Rand, Roka, and Lopez-Linares Perez each had their match registered as unfinished.
