Orlando, Fla. – The No. 8 seeded Duquesne University men's tennis team opened play at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Wednesday evening, falling to the No. 9 seed Saint Louis, 4-1 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. With the loss, the Dukes conclude the 2024-25 season at 4-11 overall and 1-4 in league action.
In doubles competition, Duquesne captured the early point after taking two of three matches. After dropping the first doubles match, freshmen
Arnau Anton Garcia and
Aril Kayra Tuna secured a 6-3 victory over Max Chen and Riki Koshimizu at the second slot. At third doubles, freshmen
Uvan Patel and
Enrique Lana downed Luca Lo Nardo and Sebastian Munoz, 6-4.
The Billikens turned it around during singles play, winning four straight matches to take the win. Junior
Alfrendo Vogelaar dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Andres Castellanos at the top spot while classmate
Keita Duclos fell to Koshimizu, 6-1, 6-1 at the third singles. At the fifth slot, Lana was downed by Vasquez 6-3, 6-4 before freshman
Teo Papadopoulos dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Munoz. Garcia held a 7-6, 5-2 lead over Lo Nardo while Tuna was up on Chen 7-6, 5-1 before both matches were marked unfinished.
