Pittsburgh, Pa. – A pair of Duquesne University women's basketball student-athletes were named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team Tuesday, announced by the organization. Senior
Megan McConnell and junior
Andjela Matic earned the honor for the Dukes.
The Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in at least 90 percent of the institution's games or start at least 66 percent of the games.
McConnell, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., is earning her masters in leadership while maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.88. A driving force for Duquesne this season, she has made a name for herself on the national stage. McConnell was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year while earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team and was recognized on both the All-Defensive and All-Academic teams. Earlier this month, the senior guard was named one of the five finalists for the 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, presented by Her Hoop Stats. McConnell has been dominant across the board, averaging 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 4.2 steals per game while shooting an impressive 47.2 percent from the field. In her most recent performance, she cemented her legacy by becoming the program's all-time leader in steals, surpassing Jocelyn Floyd (2010-13), who held the record for over 12 years with 366 takeaways. She also climbed to second place on Duquesne's all-time scoring list, amassing 1,784 career points.
Matic, a native of Ub, Serbia, has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.78 while earning a degree in corporate communication. She has appeared in all 33 games while making 24 starts in her first year on the Bluff. Matic has reached double figures seven times this season while leading the Dukes in scoring twice. The junior guard is averaging 6.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 37.2 percent (45-of-129) from the field. She also boasts a team-leading 85.4 percent (35-of-41) from the free-throw line. Beyond her efficiency, Matic has connected on 45 three-pointers, ranking third on the team, and is shooting 35.0 percent (45-of-129) from beyond the arc. She has hit two or more three-pointers in 12 games this season, highlighted by a season-high five triples in a 79-63 victory over Fordham in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championships. Most recently, the Serbian standout delivered a strong performance, scoring 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers, and going a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line to help Duquesne secure a 73-66 victory at Miami (Ohio).
This marks the third consecutive season that the Dukes have had multiple student-athletes named to the CSC Academic All-District® Team. McConnell has earned the honor for the third straight year, while Matic receives the recognition for the first time.
