Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team concludes a three-game homestand at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. tip against Stony Brook.

- The Dukes are coming off an 83-79 setback to William & Mary (Dec. 2) to open their December slate as five players scored in double figures for the third consecutive game and fourth time this season.

- Against the Tribe, junior guard Jimmie Williams paced Duquesne with 16 points and added five rebounds and a pair of steals, while senior guard Tarence Guinyard contributed 13 points and four assists.

- Off the bench vs. William & Mary (Dec. 2), forward Alex Williams reached double figures for the first time on the Bluff with 12 points, while forwards David Dixon and Jakub Nečas each finished with 11 points.

- The Dukes enter Saturday's game ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense, averaging 87.1 points per game and trailing only George Washington (90.6) and Saint Louis (89.4). Duquesne paces the A-10 in field goal percentage (.520) and fastbreak points per game (20.25), averages that also rank 15th and eighth, respectively, in NCAA Division I.

- Individually, senior guard Tarence Guinyard sits second in the circuit in both scoring (18.5 ppg) and assists (5.3 apg) while shooting 55.2 percent (48-for-87) from the field, which ranks 15th in the Atlantic 10.

- The 2025-26 season marks the 110th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Thanks to an 83-63 victory over Niagara (Nov. 3) in its 2025-26 season opener, Duquesne earned program victory No. 1,500.

- In today's day and age of college basketball with the NCAA Transfer Portal, Duquesne offers senior forward David Dixon, who will play his final season with the Dukes in 2025-26 and has spent his entire career on the Bluff. Dixon, 6'9" and 230 pounds, owns career totals of 618 points and 450 rebounds and is just the second player in program history to eclipse career totals of both 100 blocks and 100 dunks.

- Dixon is one of just four players in the Atlantic 10 this season that have spent their entire career with one program, joining 6'10" forward Sean Logan of Davidson, 6'10" forward Christian Fermin of VCU and 6'11" center Mike Walz of Richmond. Ironically, each of the four student-athletes to have played their entire career at one institution are post players.

- Redshirt senior guard Maximus Edwards scored 10 points in a 92-80 win over Sacred Heart (Nov. 7) to reach exactly 1,000 points for his career. Named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards scored 722 in two seasons at George Washington before transferring to the Bluff and has scored 327 points in his time at Duquesne. He owns a career scoring average of 10.3 points in 102 games at the NCAA Division I level thanks to 1,049 points.

- The Dukes head out on a two-game road trip after hosting Stony Brook, visiting Boise State Wednesday, Dec. 10, for a 9:00 p.m. tip before traveling to Nevada Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 p.m.

At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 110-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024, and in his second year at the helm in 2025-26. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Showtime – Duquesne has shown a penchant for putting the ball in the basket as the second month of the regular season is underway. The Dukes sit third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense at 87.1 points per game, one of just five instances in the last 60 years Duquesne has averaged 85.0 points or better through the first eight games of the season. The last occurrence came in 1991-92, when the Dukes also started 5-3 and averaged 88.3 points per contest. This season the Dukes have scored at least 80 points in six of their first eight games and have hit at least 90 points on three occasions after a 101-80 victory over Central State (Nov. 22). At The Rim – A key to the success Duquesne has had early this season in scoring has been due to its work in the paint. The Dukes are averaging 42.8 points in the paint through the first eight games of the season, scoring at least 30 in seven of their eight games, at least 40 on four occasions and at least 50 three times. To put that in perspective, Duquesne scored at least 40 points in the paint a total of four times in 32 games last season in the first year for Dru Joyce III as head coach. The Dukes are 5-3 (.625) since the beginning of last season when scoring at least 40 points in the post. In six games at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse this year, Duquesne is averaging 44.0 points in the paint.

Three's Company – Junior guard Jimmie Williams has proven to be a capable piece to the rotation in the early going, as he led the Dukes for the second consecutive game in scoring with 16 points against William & Mary (Dec. 2), hitting seven of his 13 shots from the floor. In the first eight games of the 2025-26 campaign, Williams has already set career highs in points (20 vs. Central State), rebounds (nine vs. Sacred Heart and Loyola-Md.) and steals (6 vs. Northeastern) and is producing averages of 13.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 thefts per contest while shooting 49.4 percent (41-for-83) from the field. He ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in steals per game and, along with guard Tarence Guinyard and forward John Hugley IV, each transfers brought in for the 2025-26 season, have combined to average 46.8 points, 13.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists in eight games.

Did You Know? Six Dukes are averaging between 10 and 18 points during a three-game homestand, with junior guard Jimmie Williams leading the charge. In the first two games of the homestand, Williams is averaging 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line.

Instant Impact – The latest recruiting class has paid dividends for Duquesne in the early going of the 2025-26 season, as have a pair of Dukes that have seen their first action on the Bluff after missing last year with injuries. The eight newcomers, which includes four transfers and a quartet of freshmen, as well as guard Brandon Hall and forward Alex Williams, have combined to account for 65.4 percent (456-of-697) of Duquesne's offense through the first eight games of the season. A total of 32 double-figure scoring games have been tallied so far this season, with 21 received from a newcomer. The latest to join the fray is Alex Williams, who registered his first double-figure scoring effort on the Bluff with 12 points against William & Mary (Dec. 2) at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
