Opening Tip
- The Duquesne University men's basketball team continues a three-game homestand Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. tip against William & Mary at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
- The Dukes opened their homestand with a
101-80 victory over Central State (Nov. 26) as five players scored in double figures for the second consecutive game as well as the third time overall this year.
- Junior guard
Jimmie Williams paced Duquesne in the win over the Marauders with a career-high 20 points, finishing 7-for-11 from the field, including 2-for-3 from deep, and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line while also adding two rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
- Redshirt senior guard
Cam Crawford scored 17 points in the win over Central State (Nov. 26) on the strength of a 5-for-8 performance from beyond the arc, redshirt senior guard
Maximus Edwards contributed 14 points off the bench and senior guard
Tarence Guinyard and graduate student forward
John Hugley IV finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
- Duquesne enters action this week ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense at 88.3 points per game, trailing only George Washington (91.4) and Saint Louis (89.2), and leads the conference in field goal percentage (.529) and assists per game (17.71). The Dukes also rank sixth in NCAA Division I in fastbreak points with an average of 21.71 per contest.
- The 2025-26 season marks the 110th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Thanks to
an 83-63 victory over Niagara (Nov. 3) in its 2025-26 season opener, Duquesne earned program victory No. 1,500.
- In today's day and age of college basketball with the NCAA Transfer Portal, Duquesne offers senior forward
David Dixon, who will play his final season with the Dukes in 2025-26 and has spent his entire career on the Bluff. Dixon, 6'9" and 230 pounds, owns career totals of 607 points and 447 rebounds and last season became just the second player in program history to eclipse career totals of both 100 blocks and 100 dunks.
- Dixon is one of just four players in the Atlantic 10 this season that have spent their entire career with one program, joining 6'10" forward Sean Logan of Davidson, 6'10" forward Christian Fermin of VCU and 6'11" center Mike Walz of Richmond. Ironically, each of the four student-athletes to have played their entire career at one institution are post players.
- Redshirt senior guard
Maximus Edwards scored 10 points
in the win over Sacred Heart (Nov. 7) to reach exactly 1,000 points for his career. Named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards scored 722 in two seasons at George Washington before transferring to the Bluff and has scored 319 points in his time at Duquesne. He owns a career scoring average of 10.3 points in 101 games at the NCAA Division I level thanks to 1,041 points.
- Duquesne wraps a three-game homestand after hosting the Tribe with a 2:00 p.m. tip against Stony Brook Saturday, Dec. 6, before a two-game road trip out West that includes games at Boise State (Dec. 10) and Nevada (Dec. 13).
At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 110-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024, and in his second year at the helm in 2025-26. He owns an overall record of 18-21 (.462) in his first head coaching job. Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent two seasons as associate head coach for the Dukes under Keith Dambrot from 2022 to 2024, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Showtime – Duquesne has shown a penchant for putting the ball in the basket as the second month of the regular season gets underway Tuesday against William & Mary. The Dukes sit third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense at 88.3 points per game, an average that is the highest through seven games of the season on the Bluff in almost 35 years. In the first seven games of the 1991-92 campaign, Duquesne averaged 89 points per contest in also opening the season with a 5-2 (.714) record. Four times in the first seven games that year the Dukes reached the 90-point plateau, including a 108-104 win at Xavier Dec. 21, 1992. This season the Dukes have scored at least 80 points in six of their first seven games and have hit at least 90 points on three occasions after a 101-80 victory over Central State (Nov. 22).
At The Rim – A key to the success Duquesne has had early this season in scoring has been due to its work in the paint. The Dukes are averaging 43.7 points in the paint through the first seven games of the season, scoring at least 30 in six of their seven games, at least 40 on four occasions and at least 50 three times. To put that in perspective, Duquesne scored at least 40 points in the paint a total of four times in 32 games last season in the first year for
Dru Joyce III as head coach. The Dukes are 5-3 (.625) since the beginning of last season when scoring at least 40 points in the post.
Pittsburgh of the South – Redshirt senior guard
Cam Crawford, who led the Atlantic 10 last season in three-point field goal percentage (.431), has found his groove from beyond the arc after a slow start to the 2025-26 season. Crawford contributed 17 points in a 101-80 victory over Central State (Nov. 26), a game in which he finished 5-for-8 from deep, matching a career high in three-point field goals he originally set last season in an 85-68 win over George Mason (March 1, 2025) at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Over the last three games, Crawford is averaging 15.7 points per contest and is shooting 64.3 percent (18-for-28) from the floor, including 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from beyond the arc. He enters Tuesday's game against William & Mary ranked 11th in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal percentage at 45.2 percent (14-for-31) and is a career 43.6 percent (58-for-133) from international waters in his two years on the Bluff.
Three's Company – Junior guard
Jimmie Williams has proven to be a capable piece to the rotation in the early going, as he led the Dukes in a 101-80 victory over Central State (Nov. 26) with a career-high 20 points. It marked the first game of his NCAA Division I career for Williams to reach the 20-point plateau, and also in the win over the Marauders he added three assists and a pair of steals. In the first seven games of the 2025-26 campaign, Williams has already set career highs in points (20), rebounds (nine vs. Sacred Heart and Loyola-Md.) and steals (6 vs. Northeastern) and is producing averages of 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 thefts per contest while shooting 48.6 percent (34-for-70) from the field. He ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in steals per game and, along with guard
Tarence Guinyard and forward
John Hugley IV, each transfers brought in for the 2025-26 season, have combined to average 49.1 points, 13.3 rebounds and 10.0 assists in seven games.
The Big Guava – Senior guard
Tarence Guinyard not only has a propensity for scoring the basketball, but by offering other parts of his game the complete package comes into focus. Guinyard is the only member of the Dukes this season to have scored in double figures in each of the first seven games, and he enters Tuesday's game leading the Atlantic 10 in scoring along with Kory Mincy of George Mason at 19.3 points per contest. Guinyard's penchant for scoring is assisted by his ability to get to the free-throw line. In two years of NCAA Division I basketball, including last year at UTM, Guinyard is averaging 6.13 visits to the stripe in 39 career games. Guinyard is also tied for first in the A-10 in assists with Christian Henry of Fordham with an average of 5.4 per game. Elsewhere among the conference leaders, Guinyard ranks seventh in three-point field goal accuracy (46.9%), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.24) and steals per game (1.86) as well as 10th in field goal percentage (57.3%).
