PITTSBURGH — Four Dukes earned weekly recognition from the NEC after Duquesne opened conference play with a 20-point win over Stonehill, the league announced Monday. Linebacker
Tyson Meiguez was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week, and wide receiver
Ryan Petras was selected as the NEC Rookie of the Week, while quarterback
Tyler Riddell and running back
Ness Davis were each recognized as Prime Performers.
Meiguez returned from injury to anchor a stingy Duquesne defense that held Stonehill scoreless through three quarters in the 34–14 victory. The graduate linebacker recorded a team-high nine tackles, a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup as the Dukes limited the Skyhawks to just 254 total yards and four drives inside Duquesne territory.
Petras, a true freshman, delivered a breakout performance on offense with career highs of three receptions, 82 yards, and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard score to make it 27-0 in the third quarter. The Pittsburgh native was the only NEC receiver with multiple touchdown catches this week and has three touchdowns in his last four career receptions.
Riddell continued his efficient play under center, completing a season-high 19 of 31 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns. It marked his second straight game with three scoring passes and made him the second active FCS quarterback to surpass 9,000 career passing yards.
Davis paced the ground game for the third straight week with a season-high 111 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. His 111 yards were the most by any NEC running back against a Division I opponent this week. The redshirt sophomore's 20-yard touchdown run in the second quarter extended Duquesne's lead to 13-0 and marked his third career 100-yard rushing performance.
