- The Duquesne University volleyball team continues its road swing this weekend, traveling to Bronx, N.Y. for a pair of matches at Fordham on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18 inside Rose Hill Gym.
- The Dukes opened up a five match road trip last weekend, dropping a pair of matches at Loyola Chicago. Duquesne was defeated in straight sets during both matches.
- On Friday, freshman
Karli Jordan paced the Dukes with nine kills and two total blocks while sophomore
Emersen Schrom finished with 10 digs and eight kills.
- Junior
Chloe Wilmot registered 24 assists and seven digs while seniors
Hanna Wilson and
Madison Grimm each finished with nine and eight digs respectively. Freshman
Mirabella Iriarte paced the team with three total blocks on Friday night.
- Against the Ramblers on Saturday,
Emersen Schrom led the Dukes with nine kills, nine digs, one block, and one ace, while
Ariel Helm added eight kills, three total blocks, and a .333 hitting percentage.
- Senior
Carsyn Henschen contributed six kills and three digs, and
Chloe Wilmot posted 24 assists, five digs, and four total blocks. Seniors
Maggie Colenbrander and
Madison Grimm each chipped in with five digs.
- Head coach
Steve Opperman, now in his 35th season overall, secured his 500th career victory earlier this season, becoming one of just 26 active head coaches nationwide to reach the milestone. He is also only the second active coach in the Atlantic 10 to surpass 500 wins, joining Dayton's Tim Horsmon. The longest-tenured coach in Duquesne volleyball history, Opperman is in his 28th season with the Dukes, where he has amassed 384 victories, the most in program history.
- Duquesne wraps up its road swing when it travels to Dayton on Tuesday. Oct. 21 for an Atlantic 10 match at Frericks Center.
Scouting The Rams – Located in Bronx, N.Y., Fordham is concluding a stretch of five consecutive home matches this weekend after dropping a pair of contests to George Washington. The Rams enter the weekend with a 7-10 overall record and a 1-6 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham is anchored by one of the nation's top middle blockers in Tatum Holderied, who currently leads all of NCAA Division I with 2.02 blocks per set and ranks second nationally with 113 total blocks this season. Holderied has recorded double-digit blocks in four matches and has tallied five or more in 12 contests. Offensively, Audrey Brown and Erynn Sweeney pace the Rams, each averaging over 3.00 points per set. Brown leads the team with 166 kills and 2.72 kills per set, while Sweeney follows closely with 161 kills and a team-best 2.93 kills per set. Defensively, Özge Özaslan anchors the back row, leading the team with 234 digs and averaging 3.84 per set.
Loyola Chicago Remains – In the third set on Friday, Loyola Chicago opened with an early 8-5 lead before the Dukes rallied with four straight points to move ahead 9-8. Freshman
Karli Jordan sparked the run with a kill, followed by blocks from sophomore
Mirabella Iriarte, Jordan, and senior
Carsyn Henschen, before Jordan capped it off with another strong swing. The Ramblers responded with a 6-3 spurt to reclaim the lead, then extended their advantage with an 8-5 run to go up 23-18. Two late Loyola errors trimmed the margin to 23-20, but Avary DeBileck and Kaitlyn Burke closed out the match with back-to-back kills for the Ramblers. On Saturday, The third frame featured seven ties and three lead changes as the teams traded the first 14 points. Later in the set, senior Helm delivered a kill to cut the deficit to 11-9, but the Ramblers responded with a 9-3 run to build a 20-12 advantage. Duquesne continued to battle, narrowing the gap to 23-18 after scoring six of the next nine points. Helm led the charge with two kills and a block, while Henschen and Schrom each added a kill. The Dukes pulled within 24-20 before Kaitlyn Burke closed out the match for the Ramblers.
Pacing The Way – A pair of Dukes continue to lead the Atlantic 10 in multiple statistical categories. Sophomore
Emersen Schrom and junior
Chloe Wilmot remain key contributors for Duquesne this season. Schrom currently tops the conference in points (332.5), points per set (4.82), kills (292), and kills per set (4.23). The sophomore has recorded double-digit kills in 17 matches and has led the team in kills 15 times. In conference play, she's averaging 3.37 kills per set with 91 total kills across 27 sets. Wilmot continues to orchestrate the offense, leading the A-10 with 724 assists and 10.49 assists per set. The junior setter has tallied at least 24 assists in all 18 matches this season, including 16 performances with 30 or more. Over her three-year career, Wilmot has amassed 2,371 assists and is closing in on becoming just the eighth player in program history to eclipse 2,500 career helpers.
Seizing The Moment – Sophomore middle blocker
Mirabella Iriarte has made the most of her recent opportunities, emerging as a steady contributor over the last five matches. She's averaging 1.22 kills per set, hitting .237, and contributing 2.25 points per set during that span. Defensively, Iriarte has led the Dukes at the net with 1.06 blocks per set, totaling 19 block assists and two solo blocks. She's also been a force from the service line, tallying eight aces—the most on the team over that stretch. In Atlantic 10 play, Iriarte is averaging 1.15 kills per set with a .242 hitting percentage. She notched a season-high six kills while hitting .353 against George Mason and followed that performance with a career-best six total blocks at Loyola Chicago on Friday night.
