From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University women's soccer team concludes a three-match homestand Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. tilt against Kent State at Rooney Field. The match serves as Senior Day, as the Dukes will honor Mackenzie Leeder, Ally Campanella and Maddy Neundorfer before the contest.

- Duquesne is coming off a 7-0 victory over Slippery Rock as junior forward Margey Brown led the way with five points thanks to a goal and three assists.

- In the triumph over the Rock, junior forward Brianna Moore scored a pair of goals in the first half to help the Dukes grab a 3-0 lead at the break, while redshirt freshman forward Hailey Longwell scored twice in the second half.

- Opening the scoring in the win over Slippery Rock was junior midfield Mackenzie Muir, who registered her second goal of the 2024 season, while junior midfield Emma Hospodka capped the scoring in the match with her first NCAA Division I marker at 88:41.

- Junior forward Margey Brown leads NCAA Division I in points per game (4.00) entering Sunday's match against Kent State. In helping Duquesne to a 3-1 start, Brown has scored six goals and assisted on four others for 16 points. Karlie Lema of California leads NCAA Division I in goals with nine in seven matches and is also tied for the NCAA lead in points (19) with Khyah Harper of Minnesota, who owns eight goals and three assists in five contests.

- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.

- A total of 10 different Dukes have scored in the first four matches of the 2024 season. In addition to the offensive exploits of junior forward Margey Brown, redshirt freshman forward Hailey Longwell and junior forward Mackenzie Muir have each scored eight points. Longwell owns four goals, while Muir has scored twice and has tallied four assists.

- Duquesne takes to the road for three straight after hosting the Golden Flashes Sunday, beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, with a 4:00 p.m. match at Saint Francis U. The Dukes will also visit Youngstown State (Sept. 15) as well as open up their Atlantic 10 slate at Richmond (Sept. 19) during their road swing.

Scouting the Golden Flashes – Member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) … located in Kent, Ohio … Kent State is led by head coach Rob Marinaro, a three-time MAC Coach of the Year who has been with the program since its inception in 1997 … Marinaro is in his 23rd year as head coach at Kent State and owns an overall record of 203-165-53 (.545) … The Golden Flashes are off to a 3-0-1 start to their 2024 season, with home wins over Cleveland State and Oakland, a road victory at Colgate and a tie at Youngstown State … Senior midfielder Alisa Arthur leads Kent State in scoring with seven points thanks to three goals and assist, all of which have come in the last two games, a 4-0 win over the Golden Grizzlies and a 3-2 victory at Colgate.

Historic Pace – The offensive explosion that began with three goals in the 2024 season opener, a 6-2 win over Mercyhurst, has junior forward Margey Brown on a historic pace this year. She is just four points shy of becoming just the seventh player in program history to score at least 20 points in a season and the first since former forward Katie O'Connor scored 20 points in both 2016 and 2017. O'Connor, not surprisingly, is the program's all-time leader for goals (25) while ranking second in points (67). Brown enters Sunday's game against Kent State with career totals of eight goals, eight assists and 24 points.

Hey, Junior – The offensive outburst from Margey Brown early this season has vaulted her atop the roster as Duquesne's active leader in points (24), but she is part of a junior class that is putting up some prolific numbers as a group. Thanks to Emma Hospodka picking up her first two career points with a goal in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, she joins a class that has combined for 101 points over the last three seasons courtesy of 35 goals and 31 assists. In addition to the 24 points for Brown, forward Maya Matesa is the program's active career leader in goals (9) and owns 20 points, midfielder Mackenzie Muir is the active leader in assists (9) and has scored 21 points, while forward Brianna Moore has scored 18 points over the last three years.
