From The Pitch
- The Duquesne University women's soccer team returns home to Rooney Field for the first of three consecutive matches Sunday, hosting Davidson at 1:00 p.m.
- The Dukes concluded a three-match road trip by having a five-game winning streak snapped in its 2024 Atlantic 10 opener, dropping a 1-0 decision at Richmond. A goal from Kiley Fitzgerald in the 11th minute proved to be the difference.
- Duquesne is 1-2 (.333) so far this season in games decided by one goal. Each of the last two games for the Dukes have been determined by just a marker, as Duquesne earned a 2-1 win at Youngstown State in its final non-conference match of the 2024 season prior to falling to the Spiders.

- Duquesne held an 11-7 edge in shots at Richmond and through the first eight matches of the 2024 season has outshot its opponents, 171-67.
- Scoring a goal in the first 15 minutes of each half, Duquesne opened its road trip with a 2-0 victory over Saint Francis U in Loretto, Pa., at the Stokes Soccerplex.
- Duquesne boasts two of the top three scorers in the Atlantic 10, with junior forward
Margey Brown owning 20 points to lead the circuit thanks to eight goals and four assists, while fellow forward classmate
Brianna Moore sits third with 15 points courtesy of seven goals and a helper.
- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward
Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.
- Eleven different Dukes have scored in the first eight matches of the 2024 campaign, with the junior class having accounted for 55 of Duquesne's 69 points (79.7%).
- The Dukes continue a three-match homestand after taking on the Wildcats Thursday, Sept. 26, with a 7:00 p.m. match against Rhode Island.
Scouting the Wildcats – Located in Davidson, N.C. … Has posted a 4-3-2 (.556) record this season but is 0-1 in Atlantic 10 play after a 1-0 home loss to VCU … Maddie Moody paces the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points thanks to five goals, a total that is tied for fourth in the A-10 with six other student-athletes … Emily Smith has started all nine games in goal for Davidson and owns 28 saves, a 1.01 goals against average and a .757 save percentage … In her second season leading the Wildcats is Riley Piechnick, who was tabbed head coach of the program Feb. 9, 2023 … Duquesne owns a 3-4-5 (.458) all-time record against Davidson after a 1-1 tie in last year's meeting at Alumni Stadium.
That Was Quick – It took junior forward
Margey Brown all of six matches to become the seventh player in program history to reach the 20-point threshold in a season. She is tied for sixth in the Duquesne single-season record book for points along with Erin McKane, Audra Mathws and Katie O'Connor. Mathews owns the single-season school record for the Dukes in points with 27 courtesy of eight goals and 11 assists in 2004.
Hey, Junior – Margey Brown and
Brianna Moore are at the head of a junior class for Duquesne that is putting up some prolific numbers as a group. Thanks to
Emma Hospodka picking up her first two career points with a goal in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, she is part of a class that has combined for 122 points over the last three seasons thanks to 43 goals and 36 assists. Moore is the program's active leader in both goals (13) and points (29), while Brown sits second with 28 career points. Midfielder
Mackenzie Muir, meanwhile, is the program's active career leader in assists (10) and has scored 22 points, while forward
Maya Matesa has tallied 23 points thanks to 10 goals and three assists.
