PITTSBURGH -- The Duquesne University football team knocked off No. 21/20 Youngstown State on Saturday, 28-25, for its second win over a ranked opponent in program history. In recognition of the win, the Dukes have returned to the receiving votes section of both the
Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll and
AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl, for Week 3.
Duquesne received 13 points in the Stats Perform poll and six points in the coaches poll. Duquesne was also named an honorable mention Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.
After a pair of early lead changes, Duquesne executed a two-minute drill to end the first half to get within three (17-14) at the break. Then,
Antonio Epps recorded an interception in the endzone on the opening drive of the second half and
Darius Perrantes followed with a touchdown pass to
Tedy Afful for the second straight offensive possession, giving DU a lead they never relinquished.
JaMario Clements broke off a 75-yard touchdown run to put the Dukes up 28-17 with 1:40 to play, which turned out to be the deciding score in the game. Clements finished with a career-high 204 yards on 12 carries.
Duquesne received votes in both preseason national polls. The last time the Dukes were ranked in the top-25 was in the spring of 2021.
