From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University women's soccer team hosts Slippery Rock in a 3:00 p.m. match Monday, Sept. 2, as part of a three-match homestand. The Dukes added the Rock to their 2024 schedule due to a two-week break in action.

- Duquesne stayed perfect at home in their last outing, earning a 2-0 triumph over Bowling Green. Junior forward Margey Brown opened the scoring with a goal in the first half, and junior Mackenzie Muir sealed the win in the second half with her first career goal at Rooney Field and fourth overall.

- Duquesne is led by head coach Al Alvine, who is in his 13th season leading the program in 2024. The program's all-time leader for wins, Alvine has led the Dukes to an overall record of 86-100-29 (.467). Overall in 23 seasons as a head coach, Alvine has accrued an overall mark of 216-163-47 (.562).

- Prior to the win over the Falcons, the Dukes dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 7 Pitt at Highmark Stadium in Station Square. The Panthers scored twice in the second half before junior forward Margey Brown scored her fourth goal of the young season with under three minutes to play to settle the final score.

- Led by a hat trick from junior forward Margey Brown, Duquesne earned a 6-2 victory over Mercyhurst at Rooney Field to improve to 13-15-2 (.467) all-time in season openers.

- Brown was tabbed the first Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week of the 2024 season after racking up nine points on nine shots in games against Mercyhurst and No. 7 Pitt. Brown finished with four goals and an assist, becoming the 11th different student-athlete in program history to notch a hat trick with her performance against the Lakers.

- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.

- Duquesne concludes a three-match homestand after taking on Slippery Rock Monday, welcoming Kent State to Rooney Field Sunday, Sept. 8, for a 1:00 p.m. match. The contest against the Golden Flashes will serve as Senior Day for the Dukes.

Scouting the Rock – Member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) … located in Slippery Rock, Pa. … Under the guidance of head coach Jessica Giegucz, who is in her 10th season leading the program … Giegucz has led the Rock to seven consecutive PSAC Tournament appearances and at least 10 wins seven times … Duquesne and Slippery Rock are meeting on the pitch for the first time.

Across The Land – Junior forward Margey Brown enters Monday's game against Slippery Rock among the national leaders in the early going of the 2024 season in scoring. She is tied for third in goals with five, trailing only Khyah Harper of Minnesota and Kaitlyn MacBean of Penn State, who have each found the back of the net six times, while sitting tied for seventh in points with 11. Brown is the first member of the Dukes to score in three consecutive games since former forward Katie O'Connor (2015-18) scored five goals over a four-match stretch in October of 2017.

Helper Helper – Junior midfielder Mackenzie Muir was directing the offense for the Dukes in their season opener against Mercyhurst, a 6-2 victory at Rooney Field. In addition to setting up each of the three goals scored by fellow classmate Margey Brown, Muir assisted on the second goal by redshirt freshman Hailey Longwell at 52:11 that gave Duquesne a 5-1 advantage. Thanks to four assists, Muir established a new program single-game record in the category. Three other Dukes had posted three assists in a contest previously, the last of which came from Linnea Faccenda (2014-17) in a 3-1 triumph at Dayton Oct. 12, 2017.
